The Epinex SimplySure PT-INR Test

Atrial fibrillation (AF), a dysrhythmia of the heart, is a condition that causes blood to pool in a storage chamber of the heart, where it can clot and travel to the brain. The incidence and prevalence of AF are on the verge of reaching epidemic proportions. People who have AF are at increased risk for stroke. Preventing blood clots from forming is probably the most important part of treating AF. Doctors prescribe blood-thinning medicines such as Warfarin to prevent blood clots. Warfarin is also commonly prescribed for people who have had a stroke, and for people who have had a blocked artery treated with a stent.

People taking blood-thinning medicines need regular blood tests to check how well the medicines are working. The most common test is the PT/INR test (Prothrombin Time/International Normalized Ratio). People taking Warfarin must have the effect of drug monitored regularly, as often as once a week.

The Epinex SimplySure PT-INR is the first quantitative whole-blood coagulation rapid test for PT/INR that is self-contained and does not require an expensive electronic reader device. It provides easy to use Point-of-Care convenience for the doctor’s office or for self-testing at home.
